April 10, 2011 The Beginning....

So I love to cook, I mean I LOVE cooking, baking, basically anything (except cleaning of course) that gets me in the kitchen! When I was a kid I use to pretend I was hosting my own cooking show! My mom and I always fix homemade goodies for friends and family at Christmas."Rachael Ray", "Ace of Cakes", "Top Chef" and "Diner, Drive ins and Dives" are amoung my favorite shows! I'm constantly printing off new recipes online to try, however most of them end up in a huge "gonna get to it" pile in my cabnet.
Have you seen the movie Julie and Julia? Yeah, I loved the story as well as the idea of putting yourself out there to experience and try something new! Now I have some PICKY eaters in my house as well as a small budget so I decided to change up the challenge just a bit! So here it is:

     1. At the beginning of the week I will post 2-3 new dinner recipes and 1 dessert (if I do more than that I'll end up right back where I was before I started this whole journey!!) that I will try during the week, as well as where I found it.
     2. By the end of the week I will post pictures and my review of the recipe in addition to things I might change to make it healthier.
     3. Here's the "interactive" part!! All of you who were too scared to "step outside the box" before or who don't know where to start in the kitchen, I'm challenging you to join with me! Basically, it's like that annoying chain letter recipe swap thing... but without the hassel. Jump in if you want, give me your feedback on the dishes you try or tricks to make a meal healthier!

So to start us out, I wanted to share a smoothie recipe I made up after a very exhaustive search for the perfect smoothie online. It's around 100 calories (depending on the yogurt you use) and a great mid-morning snack or breakfast treat!

Very Berry Smoothie (or Berry dood smoobie as my 3yr old says)
1/4 cup frozen blueberries (you can get a bag of fresh frozen berries- check the ingredients!! Some have sugar added)
1/4 cup frozen raspberries
6 frozen strawberries
3 packets of Stevia
1/3 cup of non-fat plain greek yogurt
1 cup skim milk

Blend till the fruit is no longer clumpy about a minute or two. This makes 2- 8oz servings!
